The Old Hideaway was originally built in 1908 and named Wallner's Pleasant View Resort. Its current name, "The Old Hideaway," traces its roots back to prohibition era speakeasies along the Fox River and the postwar biker bar it became in the 1950's & 60's. By the 1970's, it had settled into it's current identity as a remote country hideaway only a few minutes to great schools and the new Cary and Fox River Grove train stations and easily accessible from Chicago. Our combined properties are currently about 6 acres and boasts apple and peach trees, raised garden beds, and a tiny vineyard. The property is styled and managed as a sustainable homestead with shared spaces to tend vegetable gardens and raises chickens, bees, ducks, goats and rabbits. There's no lack of interesting activities for those who want to join in, but it is still VERY quiet and thoroughly relaxing. Whether you want to spend your free time in the yard, in the woods or with your "river rat" friends out on the water, life at The Old Hideaway is what you make of it. Head into town for the world's best gourmet burgers at The Tracks in Cary or zip up the river to the famous Broken Oar for the best live music around. By bike or by boat, The Broken Oar is minutes away, but you will hear nothing but crickets from home.
