In 1802 a schooner set sail from Northwest Cove with a load of salt cod destined for Boston. Upon her return the cargo included the materials for this Cape Cod house and barn - welcome to 2691 Northwest Cove; 1803c. This direct oceanfront property, tucked wisely southwest in the Cove is as authentically Maritime as Solomon Gundy, Lunenburg pudding, and Dorey Mates. Once home to farmers, fishermen, boatbuilders, and school (late 1800s), this is a property that has been part of the local fabric for generations. The generations in turn respecting history and the tales told by the well-worn floor; fishers knitting bait nets by the windows at first light, tuna flats, and lobster traps built in the boathouse. Over the years master carpenters, masons, and tradespeople were employed to keep this history alive; reproducing the six over six wooden windows, rebuilding the centre fireplace and bake oven, and maintaining the hand-hewn beams and 24' wide wainscotting. As time has passed the use of these outbuildings has changed; the barn became the studio for renowned conceptual artist the late Garry Neill Kennedy, recipient of the Order of Canada and the Governor General's Visual Arts Award. The paintings completed at Northwest Cove now hang in galleries and museums, and private collections nationally and internationally including the MoMA and the National Gallery of Canada. The boathouse transformed into a guesthouse, with a galley kitchen, sleeping loft, water closet and ample room to entertain family and friends who can spill out to the impressive oversized wharf. The two bedroom Cape House remains true to its original layout with small additions of a kitchen, bathrooms and laundry. An expectational property in amongst an exceptional community, where writers, musicians, and artists sit side-by-side the local fishers and master tradespeople for a good yarn and laugh.
