Nashua boasts a thriving downtown; scores of culinary delights; many shopping opportunities at one-of-a-kind boutiques or multitude of stores up and down Amherst Street; farmers markets; ball games and fireworks at Holman Stadium; many recreational trails for hiking, biking, running, kayaking, and winter activities; several college campuses (Rivier University, Southern NH University, Nashua Community College, etc.); theatre, cinemas, and art at various festivals, Chunky's Cinema, and Nashua Theatre Guild. Nashua is a 45 minute commute to Boston, MA or New Hampshire's seacoast and beaches, an hour plus to NH's beautiful lakes and mountains, and a hop, skip, and jump to attending a sports event or concert at SNHU Arena in Manchester, NH.
Nashua is the best place to live in New Hampshire, according to a new survey. Money Magazine said it selected the "charming" Gate City for the top spot due to its "up-and-coming" downtown, recreation options and proximity to Boston. "While beautiful scenery and a sense of community can help give a location character, features like affordability, safety, convenience, and a bustling economy are always critical factors," Money Magazine wrote, adding it factored in housing costs and median income among other factors to compile the rankings. "Residents enjoy the perks of being an hour's drive from the cultural and educational hub of Boston, but arrive home to a charming town with no sales tax and a rich history," Money Magazine wrote. "In the 1800s, Nashua had a thriving textile economy, and the old mill buildings on Main Street, now converted into apartments, studios, and work spaces, still stand in an up-and-coming downtown area."
