Description The late Christopher Gray, the long-time New York Times Sunday real estate columnist, devoted his October 22, 2006, Streetscapes column to Villa Charlotte Bronte (Google NYT Villa Charlotte Bronte), and in the article he used these words to describe the view from our living room: "Light comes in from three sides, like the conning tower on an aircraft carrier." Some History About Villa Charlotte Bronte and Our Triplex Villa Charlotte Bronte (VCB) was built as a 17-unit co-op in 1926. The first owner of our unit was the daughter or niece of the developer, and she owned our triplex until 1950. We are the third owner, and we have owned it since 1993. During our time at VCB, past neighbors have included Richard Ford, the 1996 Pulitzer Prize winning author; Blanche Baker, the big sister in 16 Candles (1984); and Farnsworth Fowle, a long-time New York Times by-lined reporter and a member of Edward R. Murrow's team of CBS radio reporters in the WWII European Theatre. And many of our present VCB neighbors are also "interesting persons!" Amenities The interior living space totals about 2,750 square feet. ? A first floor of about 1,150 square feet with an entry foyer; a living room with a wood-burning fireplace; a dining room; a kitchen; and a half-bath. ? A second floor of about 1,100 square feet with a master bedroom/bathroom with two walk-in closets; and two other bedrooms with a shared full bathroom (or a den and a guest room as presently used). ? A third floor of about 500 square feet with a full bathroom and two bedrooms (or two offices as presently used). Plus, our Villa Charlotte Bronte triplex - ? Has about 400 square feet of exterior living space spread over three balconies and a dramatic river-view entry balcony. ? Has eight other closets in addition to the two walk-ins in the master bedroom. ? Has a pantry with a stacked washer/dryer. ? Has a padlocked storage area of about 140 square feet in the basement. ? Has access to a Fitness Room of about 225 square feet with about a half-dozen machines in the basement. And very few apartments anywhere in NYC have a better combination of exterior architectural character and river-view room arrangements. Convenience To Manhattan ? The Metro North Spuyten Duyvil station is a 5-minute walk and then about 20 minutes to Grand Central. ? Lincoln Center is about a 25-minute drive or Uber ride, and the Theatre District about 10-minutes longer. ? Yankee Stadium with its new Metro North station is a 10-minute train ride, plus a 5-minute walk at each end.
