    What's special

Near the top of Spivey Mountain in the Smokey Mountains of Northeast Tennessee, is a 2300 sq. ft. 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath home on a 9-acre property the locals refer to as the Jewel of Spivey.    Every season is special in this place. The hummingbirds arrive in early spring seeking the nectar feeders, followed by the swallows with their voracious insect appetites few mosquitoes here!  Goldfinches and other seed lovers gather at the feeders.   Summer brings the fireflies covering the trees all the way to the top of the ridge.  You cant tell where the fireflies stop and the stars begin.  Butterflies arrive in droves to feed on the butterfly bushes.  The ridge glows with rich autumn colors of red and yellow, and Jack Frost turns the high peaks white in winter.  When it rains the mountains smoke.  Wild turkeys and deer graze in the fields year-round.  From the deck you can admire all these things while listening to the brook that runs next to the house or take a walk into the level fields.  For a more rigorous outing you can hike on the Appalachian Trail a short distance away.  The home is located midway between Asheville, North Carolina and Johnson City, Tennessee when city life is what you want.  Both cities are easily reached by interstate highway. The property is bordered on 3 sides by national forest guaranteeing the continued existence of this piece of nature. The house sits on 2 of the acres with a small pond, 3 garden plots, peach trees, blackberries and blueberries. The concrete driveway leads to a 20'x20' carport and to a 2-car garage with a 106 x 259 workshop.  The 7 acres of pasture are suitable for horses/livestock.  There is a small running year-round creek behind the house, plus some Spivey Creek frontage on the upper pasture.    The 4-year old barn (21'x36') has plenty of room for farm equipment, an RV camper, and tractors and it has a large loft for storage.  By sectioning off stalls, the barn could be used for horses or other livestock.  The upper field has a 15' x 20' run-in shed in very good condition.  There is an 8' X 8' block building for storing canned goods and winter vegetables.  A 1948 Ford 8NTractor, brush hog, double bottom plow and push blade are also available for sale.    The home, site built in 1950, was completely remodeled in 1980, and a new addition in 2008. The home has red oak floors in the living/dining room, hallway, downstairs bedroom and office.  The kitchen has new vinyl flooring and countertops and new electric range and dishwasher.  There is a sizable pantry off the eat-in space of the kitchen.  The sun room/utility room and mud room have ceramic tile floors with washer/dryer hook-up, counter space, cabinets, deep sink,  and large walk-in storage closet.    A half flight of stairs takes you to a large great room with beautiful close-in mountain views from the picture window.  All upper level floors are pine; the wood ceiling is vaulted with beams. Many built-ins for books or display items.  The upstairs bedrooms share a large deck with views of the mountains and pond, perfect for after breakfast coffee.  There is also a large deck off the great room.  The third deck/patio is off the sunroom and office with steps to the driveway.  There are 1.5 baths on the ground floor and a full bath on the upper floor all with ceramic tile flooring.  The home has new central heating (propane) and air conditioning (electric) although air conditioning is rarely needed.  There are ceiling fans throughout.  An excellently maintained state road provides easy access to the property.
