Unique rural rental opportunity near the Old Stone House (Brady Township).
NOTE: This is a no-smoking property
Set back off Halston Road, deer, birds, and yes
even turkeys (17 recently trotted by the house)
entertain residents and guests sitting on a wide covered porch useful in all types of weather.
Two doors open into a hexagon-shape great room
one off the half-corridor kitchen, the other off the front porch. The great room has hardwood floors, oak board paneling, pine boards on the slightly cathedral ceiling, and three large windows providing natural light and year-round views of nature. The kitchen, against one wall, allows cooks to join family members rather than being stuck away in a separate room. Spacious kitchen cupboards and a long counter, with a triple sink, electric stove top, specially designed wood stove hood, and oak eating counter, were designed and made by an Amish carpenter.
Two shallow cupboards, built into the walls, store little items (like spice), that get lost in ordinary kitchen cupboards and drawers.
Refrigerator is not supplied.
One of the two rooms off the great room is multi-purpose
eg. pantry, craft room, or just plain storage. It has two large slide-out cupboards, hung on garage door tracks, making use of the space over the basement stairs.
The second room is a study with two desk spaces and generous shelving for a library collection. Doors provide privacy or can be left open for communication with persons in the great room.
A long hallway leads from the great room to a laundry/mud room, bathroom, and three bedrooms.
The cheerful blue and yellow laundry-mud room is convenient to the source of most household laundry
the bedrooms and bathroom. It has a coat closet, shelving, and a door opening to the porch.
Washer and drier are not supplied.
The bathroom has two sinks, a shower, and cabinet space.
The master bedroom includes a powder room. All bedrooms have double closets with sturdy rods. One bedroom has access to attic space via a drop-down ladder.
Pets are welcome at the discretion of the landlord. However, there is an additional monthly rental fee for each animal, and the landlord will determine if an animal will be accepted or removed because it's a danger to others.
Outside is plentiful space for gardening, parking, family or other gatherings, as well as wooded areas providing shade for protection during the dog-days of August. The one-car garage is shared with the landlord's maintenance equipment.
The house has a whole-house fan. There is no air conditioning unit, but this fan works well to remove hot air, replacing it with cool night air.
Appliances
kitchen, laundry room
are not provided.
The basement has an efficiency apartment and a landlord room, used when the landlord must be on the property for repairs or other purposes.
The apartment, under the hexagon room, can be rented with the house (additional rent) or separately. It's great for someone needing space for parent(s) or an adult child. Its living room, kitchen with generous cupboard space, two bedrooms, bathroom, and entrances from outside or the basement, provide privacy for residents, but closeness for their caretakers.
