Deed search in Sussex County Courthouse, in Newton, New Jersey discovered a deed dated in 1795 that claims this historic property was created in 1714 when 1666 acres were granted to Joseph Kelby by the King of England. In 1795 Valentine Bidleman sold 192 acres to Fredrick Wagner. In 1869 John Tindall built the structure that is currently on the lot. The building was used as a tavern from 1869 until the tavern closed for business in 1982. As you see in the photos, in 2003, for fun, a dry bar / service area was reinstalled. The property is for sale because in 2008 the town of Phillipsburg became quite greedy. WORK STOPPED in 2008 after the Town claimed the pictured conditions were worth $118,100. SOLD AS IS, NO WARRANTY. Shown by appointment only. Most photos courtesy of DLP REALTY.
