Carriage House in a Casual intentional community in the heart of Midtown
Hi there!
We are forming/growing/evolving a six unit community in two Victorian triplexes that share a backyard at the edge of Boulevard Park in central Midtown. Our aim is a casual intentional community, built on collaboration, synergy, and fun; shared potluck dinners, backyard movies, an occasional soiree...maybe taking turns watching the kids, camping trips, etc. Whoever moves in will help define the community.
This unit was my home for several years. It's an old, adorable, light-filled 560 square foot one bedroom carriage house situated over a garage at the back of the property. We recently remodeled with refinished hardwood floors, new kitchen flooring, a new stove and fridge, and new paint, but aimed to hang on to the old charm of the place and it still feels a bit rustic. The place has great light, with windows on all four sides (the living room itself on three sides). Entry is through the treed backyard, providing a lot of privacy within the community--the best of both worlds.
We feel lucky to live with everyone who lives here! We're a variety of professionals and renaissance people. Collectively we're in IT/tech, medicine, academia, education, and the arts. Many of us are outdoorsy, frequent farmers markets, shop at the natural foods co-op. There's just one kid here so far (a hyper-adorable one-year-old) though we have aspirations for more. My wife and I would be your landlords (along with my sister who lives across town); we'd also be your next-door neighbors and fellow community members. She and I work in household hazardous waste policy and the transportation-climate policy, respectively. One of the units is itself a co-op, filled with a great group of people.
The neighborhood is full of historic houses under a canopy of huge shade trees. The number of great coffee shops within a few blocks is getting a little silly, and there are oodles of great restaurants within easy walking distance. Sacramento's most hoppin' farmers market every Saturday three blocks away. There are three parks within a mile, plus the American River Parkway with its intercity bike trail and a river to jump in. Also: Three performing arts theaters nearby; a ten minute bike ride to the food coop, less to the Amtrak station, yoga and pilates studios within two blocks, a hardware store three blocks away, and a UPS store around the block. Downtown is a 10-20 minute walk or a 5-10 minute bike ride. New bike protected bike lanes are being built on our street next year.
If this sounds like something you want to be a part of, shoot us a note telling us a little about yourself and your interest in living here!
