Hi there!
We are forming/growing/evolving a six unit community in two Victorian triplexes sharing a backyard at the edge of Boulevard Park in central Midtown. Our aim is a casual intentional community, built on collaboration, synergy, and fun; shared potluck dinners, backyard movies, an occasional soiree...maybe taking turns watching the kids, camping trips, etc. Whoever moves in will help define the community.
The unit: We're calling it 3.5 bedroom (one large, two medium-small, one tiny), 1 bathroom, 1400s.f. ground floor flat. Just-completed substantial remodel where the goal was to keep the charm but upgrade the function. 1930s style wood paneling throughout, old velvety patterned wallpaper in the entryway, newly refinished hardwood floors, freshly remodeled kitchen, new paint. New high efficiency Mitsubishi mini-split heat and air; new super high efficiency heat pump water heater; new induction range, new front load washer and heat pump dryer (we are big fans of energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction). Quirky laundry room that could be used for storage or even maybe a small home office. Back door, off the large bedroom, leads out to the shared backyard, where there are plenty of garden boxes, shady spots, a lawn, a spot we're setting up for outdoor dinners and movie watching, and a patch of wild strawberries.
The people: We feel lucky to live with everyone who lives here! We're a variety of professionals and renaissance people. Collectively we cover IT/tech, medicine, academia, the arts. Many of us are outdoorsy; many of us frequent farmers markets and shop at the natural foods co-op. Just one kid here so far (and adorable one-year-old) but aspirations for more. My wife and I, who (along with my sister who lives across town) would be your landlords, are working on the transportation-climate connection and household hazardous waste, respectively. One of the units is currently home to a group of great people living as a co-op, though that's winding down over the next few months.
The neighborhood: Historic houses under a canopy of huge shade trees. The number of great coffee shops within a few blocks is getting a little silly, and there are oodles of great restaurants within easy walking distance. Sacramento's most hoppin' farmers market every Saturday three blocks away. Three parks within a mile. Three performing arts theaters nearby. Ten minute bike ride to the food coop or the Amtrak station. Less than a mile to the American River Bike trail, which extends another uninterrupted 40 miles. Yoga and pilates studios within two blocks. Hardware store down the street three blocks, UPS store around the block. Downtown is a 10-20 minute walk.
If this sounds like something you want to be a part of, shoot us a note telling us a little about yourself and your interest in living here!
