Hand-carved into the front door, ''Hic Habitat Felicitas'' (Happiness Lives Here), greets visitors to this historic home in Coeur d'Alene's lakefront neighborhood, the Fort Grounds. A masterpiece of American and European Arts and Crafts style, it is inspired by Green & Green, Charles Rennie MacIntosh, Stickley, William Morris and their peers. Built in 1910 for the manager of the Northwest Timber Mill (now Riverstone) as one of the original homes facing the Coeur d'Alene City Park when Fort Sherman was decommissioned, it was purchased by a local family in 1942, and restored by a second-generation member of the family in 1998. It boasts all new mechanicals, furnace/air conditioner, and full-muntin double-paned windows as well as a new roof with copper gutters and rain chains.
