Current renters have just graduated from the University of Michigan and are moving on! This rarely available remodeled century old six bedroom farm home is now for rent. It is just a little over a mile out of Chelsea (near I-94), but it definitely feels like you are in the country. You will find it on a landscaped acre with only one close neighbor. Wooded state land borders the back of the property with farm fields on two other sides. It is on a paved road.
I moved to Hawaii 31 years ago and have been renting it ever since. I just can't seem to part with it. This house has been an awesome home for many families, young professionals and graduate students who want country living close to town with the excellence of Chelsea schools and the closeness to the University.
I found this to be the perfect house to raise my kids in and found Chelsea to be a wonderful community in which to live!
My property manager lives nearby and has taken care of the property for three decades! We have been blessed with wonderful tenants and are hoping to find just the right people to once again enjoy our home. Recent tenants have been three PhD students in Pharmacy. Prior to that, I had four young engineers who knew each other from graduate school at MSU. Just starting out, they decided to live together. It worked our beautifully.
This home has been well taken care of. It has a relatively new stove, washing machine and dishwasher and a new efficient gas furnace a couple years ago. I am thinking about installing new carpet.
Many of our tenants have asked to buy this house. They say they have loved living here; that is feels like "home". They loved the Chelsea community and having close access to major highways while still having the country vibe.

Aloha! I live in Hawaii after having raised my kids in this house. Everyone who has rented it over the last 31 years has loved being here!! I have a wonderful property manager who fixes anything and everything. He has worked at the house for more than a decade and lives in Chelsea.
I will allow one dog who has passed a canine good citizen test and is of a breed temperament similar to a labrador or golden retriever. The breed cannot be on the at risk list for insurance carriers. It can be an inside dog if well behaved. I will not allow cats. There is a non-refundable pet deposit of $300, as well as a pet fee of $75/month. Any violations witnessed by the property manager with regard to pets would negate the lease. I bred labrador retrievers and trained Goldens and Labs for 13 years. I love dogs and would like to have the right dog live in my house!
The tenant pays for all utilities, snow removal and yard mowing.
The property manager will arrange for grass mowing (tenant pays). If capable of properly maintaining a riding mower, tenant can use the one on the property and do the yard him/herself.
The tenant will arrange for snow removal as needed.
Tenant also pays for curbside trash pick up. No burning is allowed on the property.
Landlord will pay for salt for water softener and property manager will put it in the softener on a monthly basis.
Landlord will pay for all tree and bush trimming and landscaping needs.
Tenant must purchase rental insurance and provide a copy at lease signing.
No smoking or illegal drug use is permitted.
I would like the next lease to end July 31, 2026, if possible. However, this is negotiable. I am willing to continue the lease after that date, if it has been a good fit. The rent may increase slightly at that time, depending on how much the tenants have been able to take care of things on their own.
Monthly rent money will be paid directly into the Landlord's bank account at Central Pacific Bank by the first day of each month. This should be set up on automatic payment. The first month's rent will be prorated and due with the $2800 deposit at signing of the lease.
The house has been rented by three doctoral students in pharmacy for the last couple of years and this has been an excellent arrangement. I liked this arrangement and would love to find another group of 3 to continue to rent. Since the home has 6 bedrooms, a fourth could be added for an additional $900.
