"Kimball House built in 1918, was deeded to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island in 1924. It is situated on Kimball Bird Sanctuary, a 29 acre Audubon wildlife refuge that abuts Burlingame State Park. It is also adjacent to Watchaug Pond, a swimmable freshwater lake that can be used for canoeing, boating and waterskiing.This historic bungalow has been recently restored to preserve the exquisite period detailing. On the first level there is a screened-in porch, living area, den/office, kitchen, dining room, two bedrooms and full bathroom. The second level has two additional bedrooms. There is a dry basement with washer/dryer hookups and ample room for storage.The exterior of the cottage has charming stone paths, stone walls and birdbaths. There are walking trails throughout the Sanctuary to observe birds in their habitat. Kimball House has a rich history that has been documented by the Audubon Society of RI. The property's long term caretakers, Everett and Mary Southwick, would entertain soldiers and sailors from WWII that were sent to Burlingame State Park to recuperate. The Southwicks would lead their guests through the many walking trails in Kimball Sanctuary.
