Our home is the oldest in Bridgeton Township and the Village of Upper Black Eddy. The property faces the Delaware River from the western side of River Road and is about 90 feet wide. The property includes riparian rights and has a large commercial composite material dock for your enjoyment.
The oldest part of the house is a kitchen of stone construction, built between 1700 and 1720. This section is a two-bay, one-pile design with the original stone presently covered with stucco. Original elements that remain include the walk-in, cooking fireplace, hand-hewn ceiling beams, and wide floorboards. Around 1860, the present roof was added to this part of the house. A second story of frame construction is also present today and could have been added during this time period or possibly earlier.
The main house is a three-bay, two-pile Georgian-style house of stone construction, built in the 1750s. It originally had a center hall layout, but was modified in the 1800s to create two separate apartments, including the addition of two, new front doors. The separate units were converted back into a single-family house in the 1900s, although the double front doors were retained. Elements that remain are the massive stone chimney supports in the basement, hand-hewn floor joists, and corner fireplaces. Relieving stone arches are present over the eight-over-eight windows on the first floor. The house was probably two stories when first constructed, but was changed to its present 2-1/2 stories when the new roof and attic were added circa 1860.

Neighborhood Description
Upper Black Eddy (UBE) is a small town situated along the Delaware River. It is part of Bridgeton Township, in the northeastern corner of Bucks County, PA. The population of Bridgeton Township was 1,408 in the 2000 census.
The area around UBE is known for its sheer rock cliffs and the winding Delaware River that runs alongside of them. Although very rural, UBE and Bridgeton Township are not far from two metropolitan areas: New York City is only 70 miles to the east, and Philadelphia is only 65 to the south. Also, the smaller cities of the Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania (Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton) are approximately a half-hour drive away.
UBE is almost exclusively residential. Besides homes, the only commerce in the center of town is a post office, a general store, and a gas station. More conveniences, however, are not far away. Just across the bridge in Milford, NJ, you will find several restaurants, a grocery store, a bank, three churches, a bakery, a pharmacy, a health food store, another gas station, and several other stores and shops.
