This amazing corner lot straw bale house was built in the late 1940's by the same trades people who built the Burritt Mansion in Huntsville, Alabama. Using reinforced concrete columns for support, the straw bales are used as infill rather than structural support. The 18" thick walls are covered with a sturdy layer of concrete. In addition of offering excellent insulation, this design provides formidable resistance to server winds. A hip roof that accommodates a second floor was added in the 1960"s. New flooring, fresh paint, and updated lighting throughout the house. HVAC was put in April of 2020.
