Built in 1895 this Newly Restored Vintage Modern House in Inner SE Central Eastside District is Perfection! Near all - restaurants, coffee, transportation - really, anything you need in walking distance - you can even walk (20ish min) or bike (10 min) right over the Hawthorne bridge to downtown. PERFECT place to land while you look for you forever home or are here for a month or few for a job. When we got this house she was about to be demolished. And honestly, this was understandable as she was built as "temporary housing" for dock workers back in 1895 (!!). When we got her she had been neglected longer than any sweet home deserves. We lovingly and painstakingly restored and revived her beyond what any sane person would do. We took her down to the studs so we could straighten the parts that had settled over time. We even added a second floor attic en suite bedroom complete with half bath and view of the city; and completely redid EVERYTHING else while restoring what we could. We were able to save doors and windows and cubbies, and even her ancient douglas fir floors, but we decided to draw the line at her nonworking heating system - it needed to go in favor of a heat/ac split system in each room instead. Old electric and plumbing?? No thank you! We prefer all new to handle our modern kitchens and baths (complete with handmade tile from Portland's own Pratt & Larson). We did save the old pantry and turned it into a sweet office with VERY COOL stairway to the attic (made out of salvaged barn flooring that we literally had to blast the cow off of!). All in all, she is a beauty on the inside and much bigger than she appears from the outside. We know you will enjoy your time here! We specialize in supporting people in transition - that could mean a contract job or moving here from out of state or other. Given that, let us know what you need and we will consider it. We prefer longer stays as they are less of a hassle ;) - Lease terms vary depending on length of term. In most cases, Landlord pays garbage. Tenant pays electric, water/sewer, cable/wifi. Lease Duration minimum one month, but we are happy to rent longer on a month to month basis.
