This is the farmhouse where I grew up. It was built the year I was born, 1949, by my grandmother’s brother.
Our parents are gone now, and my sister and I would like to sell the house with approximately 32 acres of the original farm. This includes a 40 x 60 metal building, a 24 x 24 shop building, and other small out buildings. There’s a recent, 300+ foot deep modern rotary-drilled well, and a shallower cable drilled well inside the shop. About 5 acres of the property makes up a steep, forested hollow that leads down to where there’s about 70 feet of frontage on the South Prong of the Jacks Fork River. The rest of the 32 acres is in pasture, and there’s perimeter fencing of the whole acreage.
There’s also a good-sized stock pond, stocked with fish.
The house and outbuildings all need some attention, but this is an established home place and most everything we’re aware of works and doesn’t freeze up in winter. The rooms are not large, and you’ll probably want to remodel, or at least repaint. The house was built in a time of simple materials, from oak lumber obtained from a local sawmill, which is mostly a blessing. There are three bedrooms and a bath upstairs. Two of the bedrooms open to a sundeck. Downstairs are four more rooms and a smaller bath. Four years ago, we installed an air-source heat pump for heating and cooling.
Our family always felt that this was a singularly attractive location, with views up and down the Jacks Fork Valley. It’s a quiet, peaceful spot only ten miles from town, the house being located a comfortable distance back from the highway. On bright summer days, there’s the view of the bluff above the river. On clear winter nights, you can hear the train running past Willow Springs.
Edited to add 4/20/19: We had storm/wind damage to the roof a few weeks ago. A new roof for the house and shop is being installed by A+A Roofing of West Plains.
Edit 5/21/19: Added three new photos showing the newly-installed $8000 roof on the house and shop building. The blue is the new color (for reference, the older photos have a brown roof). We added the roof, but have NOT RAISED THE PRICE.
