The Hannah & Samuel Allen House, 1720, in Old Deerfield has a lively history. Many of the original inhabitants were killed in King George's War, 1746, while haying the fields. In 1768, the next generation enlarged the house to be a true saltbox. Circa 1880, the famous landscape painter George Fuller had his studio there. His son in law, Augustus Tack, another artist enlarged the house further. House was restored by the next owner in the the 1960's by the famous restoration contractor Bill Gass. All is well documented. This owner made his studio with a fireplace & loft in part of the barn. House has been well taken care of since then with many modern improvements. It retains most of its original paneling, hardware, floors, and its central chimney with a beehive oven. It sits on 5.83 level acres with a small orchard, plenty of room for horses, & gardens. There is an inground pool. A stone patio off the dining room for summer cook outs. Must be seen to be appreciated.
