Marcel Breuer "Caesar Cottage" on Lakeville Lake The original cottage was designed by world renowned architect and furniture designer, Marcel Breuer for the Caesar Family from New York in 1952; it was a modern open concept right at the water's edge. The modest cottage contained a living room with a sculptural fireplace of hammered concrete and cylindrical flues, a dining room, kitchen and bathroom. The living room must have doubled as sleeping quarters as no bedroom is indicated on the plan. The later addition of two rooms on the first floor and finally a second story was done keeping Breuer's aesthetic in mind. The original walnut flooring, wood paneled ceiling and fireplace are all original to Breuer and remain. A wall of windows overlooks the porch which projects beyond the lake-side. There are now three bedrooms and two full baths and a wonderful office/reading area on the second floor with large window framing the lake and hills beyond. Set well away from the road, the 1.1 acre parcel offers 108 feet of direct lake frontage on Lake Wononskopomuc aka Lakeville Lake. Lakeville, a hamlet of Salisbury, CT, is located in the foothills of the Berkshires and just 2 hours from Manhattan. The Metro-North train is a short drive. Abutting New York state and Massachusetts one can take advantage of all the Litchfield Hills, Hudson Valley and Southern Berkshires have to offer in the way of arts, culture, outdoor activities and wonderful dining. A perfect weekend destination!
