    What's special

This historic and unique property boasts a relocated 1775 Tavern from Buckingham County with a 2 bedroom guest house, 2 small tool sheds and a large workshop situated on 2.6 acres, overlooking Stagg Creek. Nestled amongst the trees, the tavern now juxtaposes the old and the new, with an exquisitely built handcrafted kitchen and bathroom adjoining the original building. This historic property was frequented by Thomas Jefferson on his way to visit his sister. It later became a brothel, law firm and preaching house. It is reported that it was also visited by Robert E Lee on his way from Appomattox where he declined a meal but stayed on the original property. It fell into disrepair and was dismantled in 1981. It was reconstructed in Ashland in 1985 in parklike gardens along with an historic barn, now used as a homestay retreat. The original structure contains 5 working fireplaces (one with a new Jotule), original floorboards, original wood paneling, and traditional plaster work. The additions are modern and airy, providing a striking view across the tree-tops down to Stagg Creek. There are 3 bedrooms in the main building, a family room, studio, formal dining and living rooms, a sunroom and a rear party deck. The house is cooled by 2 efficient geothermal heating and cooling systems, hot water is heated by solar and there are 3 wells on the property.  The garden has a structured and irrigated 4 season yard, with a zen garden currently being used as a vegetable garden. The rolling hills are easily maintained and look more like a botanical garden. The Barn is a 2 story rustic guesthouse with all the charm of its history. It is only 30 mins to downtown Richmond and Shortpump. It is close to the sought after schools of Henry Clay and Patrick Henry HS. Hanover Country Club golf and tennis are very close by. The community is friendly and welcoming. This is a most relaxing and unique property and is worth further investigation.
