After Nancy Hanks Lincoln's parents died when she was young, she moved down from Virginia and lived with her Uncle James Hanks in "The Great State of Wilkes" (When Surry, Ashe, Alleghany counties were all part of Wilkes) until she married Thomas Lincoln and moved to Kentucky. She was said to have summered with her family in North Carolina. Wilkes County summer census in 1808 (the year before Abraham Lincoln was born) shows Nancy in Wilkes County NC. The Hanks family speculate that if she was pregnant and due to high infant mortality, she would most likely not have traveled the treacherous journey to Kentucky during her 2nd Trimester of pregnancy. Reason would dictate she would have stayed and had her child with her family around and not alone with her husband in the wilderness. Therefore President Abraham Lincoln could have been born in this cabin. Due to the unclear origins of President Lincoln's mother "Nancy Hanks", this story cannot be discounted or proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Up until 2009, Wikipedia posted all three possible origins of Nancy Hanks to include the barmaid who allegedly had John Calhoun's illegitimate child. Restored, this cabin would make a great guest cottage, with a great fireside tale of history.Information is Subject To Verification and Not Guaranteed.Non-Exclusive Offering, Brokers Protected.
