Built in 1870 as a carriage house, 1312 Naylor Court has had an incredible past. In 1921 F. J Simonds Carpenter Shop opened in the carriage house. (The sign is visible on the side of the house) In the 1950s the space was converted into an electricians shop. In 1986 Michael Carr, a local DC artist converted the carriage house into a residence. Michael is famous for his artistry that depicts the safety issues in Washington DC during the time he was a resident in the house. As highlighted in the New York Times and Washington Post, he is famous for painting body markings representing 453 deaths in Washington DC in a single year. Today 1312 Naylor Court celebrates its past and honors its future as one of 2 four walled carriage houses in the center of Washington DC.
