City of Hornell Partnership with GST BOCES Completes 11th House. The 11th brand-new home, constructed with a partnership between the City of Hornell and GST BOCES, has been completed and was reviewed by the Board of Public Works at their December meeting. The home is located on Preston Avenue, the site of a devastating fire in 2019 that resulted in the loss of five homes. “With the cost of materials, this house is, unfortunately, our most expensive. The great thing about this partnership is there is no labor cost. While students gain experience and knowledge, a new home goes into a neighborhood. It’s a win-win for everyone,” stated Superintendent Mitchell Cornish. This 1568 square foot, single story, 3-bedroom house sits on a completed, but unfinished basement. The home was designed by Assistant Public Works Superintendent Ashley Brown who notes, “this home features two full bathrooms, a two-car garage, new appliances, as well as on-demand hot water, forced air heating and cooling, and a very large yard which includes a patio with a modern design concept.” Bids for the home will start at $202,000.
