    What's special

Large English colonial in the desirable river area facing a park with great light; period architectural details; open unobstructed views; and great entertaining flow. Easy walking distance to downtown; 5-minute walk to commuter train and busses to New York; 5-minute drive to Garden State Parkway; walking distance to several houses of worship; walking distance to high school and excellent elementary school; short drive to Union County College; canoeing on Rahway River across the street; one of the best blocks in Cranford, a relaxed, friendly town that was once a summer resort, with extraordinary municipal facilities, including new library and community center, indoor and outdoor pools, gym facilities, community movie theatre, and extensive programs and events for all ages. Although the website wanted only one date for updating, the house has been updated periodically since it was built. The current updates in the house were done between 1983 and 2013 (adding new windows, a master bath, closet, and sitting area). Neighborhood Description The quality of any neighborhood is measured by the quality of the neighbors and the environment that they have created and not by the richness of the houses or the landscaping. We have lived in many places, and this is one of the best neighborhoods we have ever lived in. The river area has warm, friendly neighbors who know everyone else well, who trust each other to look out for each other's children, homes, and pets, and who can be counted on for help if it's needed. The neighbors are all very different ranging from corporate nomads to old time Cranford families who have owned their homes for generations, yet, despite their varying positions in life and very different backgrounds, everybody has a down-to-earth attitude, no competitiveness with each other, and no prejudice that we have ever seen or experienced. This is a rare quality that is priceless and which is why so many people who know Cranford want to live in this area on this block.
