Fifteen years ago the charming Johnson/Beck farmhouse was moved from within the Sleeping Bear Dune National Lakeshore into the historic village of Empire.  The house was set on a new poured concrete foundation and a new timber frame porch was added on the east side.  In addition to the new front porch, it has a living room and sitting room/parlor sharing a long south facing bay window, separated by a pair of pocket doors. The house has a restored enclosed porch to the north with a sleeping porch above it. New plumbing, wiring, insulation and a zoned hot water heating system were also installed at that time.   Some interior walls feature new true pigmented plaster--although limited remnants of the original plaster and historical wall paper were left as an historical record.  The exterior wood trim and clapboard siding has been lovingly restored and painted.  The walk-out basement is now a rental apartment, complete with its separate glass door entry, toasty warm and quiet in-floor radiant heat, a kitchenette and bathroom.  The house has great fung-shui.  The east half is the original 1890's portion of the house. The west half was built in the 1920's. The house has hardwood maple floors.  The windows are mostly original single pane units with old fashioned storm windows--except for the second bathroom which has new custom storm windows which install from the inside. Empire was an historic lumber town, a mile square, established along Lake Michigan. The beach is a short walk west from this house; the National Park is 2 blocks south.  This is an historic house with a rental apartment and a detached garage, being sold 'as is'.  Viewings by appointment.
