I could go on and on about this magical little property that’s tucked away in the woods across a little bridge, half way between Athens and Nelsonville, but I’ll tell a short story of my relationship to this property instead. Back when I first started selling real estate about seven years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting a California couple who were considering a move back to Ohio, where they wanted to retire as artists. They made a couple of trips here, but none of the homes that were on the market came close to satisfying their basic needs. As artists, they wanted not just a home, but a sanctuary, with a setting and structures that inspired creativity, tranquility, serenity. We could not find it. Months later, this home came on the market. It had been owned and contributed to by various artists, poets, musicians and other creative types over the years, and the moment I saw it, I called the California folks and told them that I was sure the property would sell before they could book a flight back to Ohio. After visiting the property in person, I was so convinced that this was the right place, that I told the California folks that I would actually buy the home myself, and then resell it to them if they liked it. I didn’t have much money and it stretched my resources. But I just KNEW. Properties like this just don’t come along very often. So I did buy it and they did visit about two months later and they did fall in love with it and they did in fact buy the home. And there they made their lives, and in the tradition of those before them, the new owners improved the property, both practically—new bridge, completely revamped workshop, upgraded woodstove, etc.—AND aesthetically—outdoor mediation areas, hand-built doors and shutters, circular stepping pads, and much much more. Time is a river. I invite you to step for a moment out of its flow and into this special world where for just a moment you can imagine the next chapter of your own life unfolding here. It’s a beautiful thing. And, by the way, it’s got three bedrooms and two baths. The rest you’ll just have to see.
