Older home of excellent original construction. The original house of 1100 sq. feet was added onto in the mid 80's, making into a 4-bedroom or 3-bedroom & office house with an additional bathroom in the master bedroom. Both bathrooms were completely updated with new wiring, plumbing, energy-efficient fixtures, and vinyl flooring. A new roof and gas heater were put in(2001) and have been well-maintained. The house sits on property that is nearly 1/4 of an acre, close to major highway intersections and the MAX line, but is in a quiet neighborhood. The property includes fruit trees and over 40 feet of cultivated berry vines (thornless blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries) in addition to several raised vegetable/flower beds throughout the front and back yards. The back yard also has a small storage shed. The original steel windows were replaced in 2007 with high-quality double-pane vinyl windows and sliding glass doors; custom vinyl blinds cover many of these new windows and further add to the energy efficiency and privacy. Unlike many new homes, the house is situated back from the street and yet has a large enough back yard to allow privacy and play on all 4 sides. Roofing, siding, solar panels, and decking have been updated as of 2015. This would be a perfect home for a young, growing family.
Neighborhood Description
This is an older neighborhood in the first subdivision plotted in Washington County. What the neighborhood lacks (sidewalks, wide streets), it makes up for in mature trees, kid-and-pet friendly neighbors, quiet streets, and close proximity to the city that grew up around it. It is within biking distance to Nike, Tektronix, and Columbia Sportswear. It is also within biking distance of 2 MAX stops and very close the Highways 26 and 217. The neighborhood can be disconcerting to visit. There are large sections of housing owned by Harold Neumark and rented out (Millcreek Road, Henry, and Williams Ave.). These tend to be very rundown and not maintained or supervised well. Our house is on a street with either homeowners or long-term renters who typically care about maintaining their property and who watch out for each other. Two well-maintained parks--Commonwealth Park and Fire Station Park--are within walking distance. Commonwealth Park maintains a lake stocked with trout, several soccer fields; both parks have play structures and picnicking areas.
