This charming two-bedroom one bath cottage was built around 1912. It was built as a one room cabin on the other side of town, and then moved to this location around 1923 so this place has a lot of history. Two bedrooms and a bathroom were added at some point before we owned the home. We have tried to keep the old-house charm intact so that you can live your cottage core fantasy. There is enough space in the back yard for a small garden if you want to grow your own food. I planted some boysenberries just last year and there is a giant rhubarb plant and other mature plants. You can enjoy your cup of tea on the front porch and listen to the boats on the river as well as the barking sea lions on some days. All the views of the river are obstructed by houses, but you can kind of see bigger boats going by. There is nothing better than sitting on this porch with a hot cup of tea all year round because the porch is covered.
The cute little kitchen has a fairly new fridge and stove that were purchased about a year ago. There isn't a ton of cabinet space, so I used metal shelving in the kitchen to store all my canning supplies and kitchen aid. The Bathroom has a new upgraded sink, and it has shower/tub combo so you can take your bubble bath or a shower. We recently installed vinyl flooring/wood flooring throughout the house. There is a small "back porch" just off the kitchen that used to be the laundry room. This can now be used as an office or panty area to store the rest of your canned goods. There is built in shelving that will help you stay organized. The laundry hook ups in the garage so you can still have modern amenities in this home. (washer and dryer are not included, you will need to bring your own). The garage door opens and closes manually and locks from the inside. The garage will fit one car and still have some room for storage or wood working on the front of the garage You have a work bench and shelves already there. Yard care is not included in your rent, so you need to take care of the yard or find someone to pay for yard service. We do hope to find someone who loves to garden and give this home some love. The house is nestled in a safe area with really great neighbors all around it. Most of the homes in this area are owner-occupied, but there are a few rentals next door.
Both bedrooms in the home have small closets which were pretty standard for older homes. There is even a window in one of the closets. This was done in historic homes to keep moths from eating wool clothing. Closet doors in this home are missing so I just hung curtains. This worked really well. I have included some pictures of the house furnished. That way it's a little easier to visualize how you might want to place your own antiques and furniture. I don't think it would be possible to fit a king size bed into either of the bedrooms, but queen beds fit well as you can see. There is a ductless heater a/c unit in the living room as well as a couple wall heaters. Adding throw rugs on the floors helps keep the place warmer in the winter because old homes can be a bit drafty.
Rainier Oregon has one of the better school districts in the area. Since Rainier is located in Oregon there is no sales tax. You can hop over the Longview bridge to Longview Washington for Target, Safeway, Joann Fabrics and so much more. Longvie also has a community college and hospital. Costco is about a 45 min drive and located in Vancouver Washinton (but some people will drive to Astoria for Costco). Rainier has a Grocery Outlet and a Dollar General and some locally owned businesses. It is a small quaint town where most people have lived here for generations. There isn't a lot of traffic on B street, and I always felt safe letting my children play outside at this house. The cop drives by frequently and I knew him by name. It is about an hour drive into downtown Portland or the Portland Airport in case you want to commute into Portland for work. There are a lot of people who live in Rainier and commute for work.
We have put a lot of love and care into this little home. We are hoping to find just the right someone who wants to stay here long term and enjoy this country living and a slower paced life. There are not a lot of places for rent in this town because it is an ideal area to raise a family. When I checked there were no other rentals for rent in Rainier. The house isn't occupied at the moment, so you are welcome to drive by and check it out. We are also happy to arrange a viewing for you. Please fill out an application today!
