In 1943 the city was built for the war effort and homes were planned and built in the beautiful hills and valleys of Black Oak Ridge. Whenever possible the homes were placed so that they faced wooded areas called greenbelts, making calm and beautiful views from the picture windows and porches. Today the city has grown to the east and west, but the heart of the city with many well maintained homes is still lovely. Recreation opportunities abound - tennis, swimming, hiking, rowing, horseback riding, and golf. City services are excellent with weekly garbage pickup at the back door and weekly pickup of recycle bins at the curb. Oak Ridge is a clean well-run city with a friendly population of interesting and interested people.
