This amazing house is a 150-year-old masonry building that was fully renovated in 2015. The original mill was built in 1817 by William C. Duncan over stone foundations that date to 1798. The entire structure was then rebuilt in brick by D.H. Musser in 1871. This massive three-story building exhibits brickwork of several different periods and iron star supports. The thickness of its brick walls is impressive and speaks to bygone craftsmanship. They are over three feet thick on the first floor and about two feet on the third. Originally an industrial building, a gristmill, its sturdiness is simply breathtaking. The property is still crossed by the peaceful mill race, whose current used to move the millstone. The 2015 renovation updated the entire building. Modern insulation was added. All interior walls & ceilings were drywalled. Ceramic tile was laid on all floors. The electric & plumbing systems were replaced according to the highest standards. Three independent HVAC systems, one per floor, each with its own thermostat, were installed. A large gourmet kitchen with granite counters, hickory wood cabinets, and two large upright freezers were added. A stone patio and stone steps were added all around the building. A large two-story deck was built on the east side.
