    What's special

1924 colonial revival bungalow. Recent full major renovation and addition (2016). Updated ALL systems (HVAC, electric, plumbing, solar), new roof, modern kitchen, office, family room, finished basement with small kitchen, and more. Basement can easily be converted into an in-law apartment. History: House was built in 1923-1924 by Earl Sprague, a local builder and volunteer firefighter here in Longmont. The house most notably was the home of John C and Ruby Nelson (a founding family of Longmont) who moved in to town from their farm in 1948. Ruby lived here until her death in 1990, bequeathing the house to the First Lutheran Evangelical Church on 3rd Ave that rented the house house until late 2005, when we purchased it. Ruby Nelson was the oldest person to have lived in Longmont. Neighborhood Description: Old Town Longmont is one of the original sections of the town, generally comprised of 3rd to 9th Ave, Bowen to Main St. The neighborhood is made of houses primarily from the 1880s to the mid 1940s. Most were built in the 1920s and 1930s. There are number of parks, including Roosevelt Park in the center of the neighborhood that hosts summer concerts and events, as well as a skating rink in the winter. Streets are all tree-lined with most with 50 year old maple, elm, oak, and ash trees. Main St is home to several parades and major events each year, as well as several family-friendly restaurants and shops, only a few blocks to the East of the neighborhood. The neighborhood is very walkable / bikeable. This home is within the Longmont West Side Historic Neighborhood, listed in the National Register of Historic Places. This subset area includes 3rd Ave to 5th Ave, Terry St to Bowen St. Unlike most of its more traditional Craftsman neighboring houses, this home also displays features of Colonial Revival homes that were starting to come into vogue in the late 1920s, such as a central doorway and paired round columns.
