ABOUT ILK HAUS is a newfangled art + community collective looking for artist + community organizer hausmates to help build and guide the collective great opportunity for DMACC, Drake, and Grand View students. Come help us put some grassroots down! Available July 1. DETAILS Rent: $1650/month includes WiFi, utilities, shared laundry Deposit: $1650 Lease Length: 6-12-month lease Parking: Street + driveway COVID: Must be COVID-mindful as this is a shared living space Non-smoking household No pets unfortunately Background check required THE SPACE is located near 39th St. & Kingman Blvd and is a three-bedroom and three-bathroom haus (1 - full bathroom upstairs, half bath on main floor, half bath in basement) with a renovated basement bedroom and bathroom on the way. The haus will be used to host (for now, socially distanced) art + community events: readings, showings, acoustic sets, workshops, meetings, etc. So far, we've hosted a poetry reading (Nov. 2020) and comedy night (May 2021; see photos) in the backyard. The goal is to host monthly events at the haus/in the backyard. Amenities include garage workshop space, central heating and A/C, basement storage, two sunrooms, two dining room spaces, deck, fenced-in yard, projector/projector screen, and creative community. Under a mile from Hy-Vee Drug Store and Price Chopper. A few blocks from #3, #5 and #60 DART bus route stops. Also under a mile away: Drake University, DSM Community Playhouse, La Mie Bakery, Manhattan Deli, Bauder's & Donut King, the Ingersoll/University corridors in general just sayin'. ABOUT THE OWNER Hello! Emma Murray here. I am a writer (poetry and creative nonfiction) and educator. When I'm not teaching English/communication courses at Iowa State University and DMACC, I am playing music too loudly and probably dreaming about drinking chocolate milk or eating ice cream. I am looking for like-minded hausmates that are willing to help with planning and hosting events at the haus, working on outreach efforts (newsletters, creating partnerships within the community, etc.) and will treat ILK HAUS with care. If you want to get more actively involved in the Des Moines art scene and community organizing, ILK is a great hands-on opportunity and line for your resume.
