    What's special

The Journal, Thursday July 4, 1901 "One of the handsome new modern cottages completed in Tekamah this summer, is the one pictured above belonging to Thomas J. Frew." "The house is finished throughout in hard pine. The cases being beaded and finished in mantle tops. It is hard oiled throughout." Mr. Frew was one of the original shop owners in Tekamah. The Frew family loved and owned the home until 1942 following Mr. Frew's death. Unfortunately, the original staircase described in the article was taken out of the home during the depression when the upstairs was used as an apartment as was common during that time period. It has been returned to a single family home since at least 1968. Over the years the home has had a total of five additional owners (2 years, 9 years, 14 years, 34 years, and 11+ years). All the original woodwork still exists in the upper story of the home and in the parlor on the first floor. The attic is currently unfinished but could become a usable space. In previous years the attic had been used as additional bedroom space. In addition to the basement, there is a separate fruit cellar. There is one bedroom and a full bath on the main floor for anyone who may have difficulty with the stairs. This home could be easily restored back to the royal beauty she once was and meets all the requirements of the historical register if someone wished to register it. Small orchard including grapes, peaches (several varieties to extend harvest season), nectarines, sweet cherries, raspberries, blackberries, gooseberries, strawberries, jostaberries, apples (9 varieties), apricots, plumcots, and plums. New furnace/central air in 2006. Exterior painted in 2017.
