    What's special

MY TUDOR— A home should reflect the personality of those who live in it. Your home is the stage for you to live your life. For me, this home is soothing and reassuring. —The inspiration for the decor is the desire for comfort, coziness, and a kindling hospitality. It pays homage to the Danish Hygge; comfort. It has a whimsical, layered, textured and collected look. Every corner has its own meaning, it’s own atmosphere. There are so many different zones, for so many different purposes. After entering through the foyer, one first sees the Drawing Room. What I wanted was a play on the traditionally underutilized and much less functional formal dining room. I used a modern cold rolled steel and glass table made with found objects, a mosaic glass vase holding found branches ornamented with chandelier crystals. Think, Theory of Natural Selection. I was a curator, whose appraising eye, elevated errant twigs into refined treasures. Because the table is glass, it visually uses less of the room's footprint. The fireplace is festooned with votives and lined with mirror, To double the effect. Everything else in the space is dark wood cabinetry and dark colored upholstery, lit in all corners with backlighting and sculptural lamps. Leaving the table devoid of chairs collapses the idea of just the table and chairs in the dining room. It really is a modern interpretation of the dining space. There are really great sight lines on the first floor. You can see from one end, completely to the other. The kitchen and the living room parlor is between the dining space in the kitchen, which is at the back of the first floor. From the kitchen, you can see through the parlor and the drawing room into this solarium, without the obstruction of the sea of furnishings. The solarium has a wall of windows that bring in considerable light on a sunny day. The entire first floor is like a modern great room and the open floor plan makes the place feel more inviting. It has lots of comfortable seating, multiple windows, and sofas are all raised and more visible floor space gives an added feeling of spaciousness. The most important thing in creating an interior design is that you must love every piece that comes into your home. It’s important to evaluate your belongings from that standpoint. If you don’t absolutely love something that you’re choosing to live with, or if it does not perform a viable function, just get rid of it. On the second and third floors there are six rooms, each with it’s own unique feeling and personality. The are each functional, yet beautiful, jewel boxes that engulf and entertain. The lower level, though utilized mostly as storage, has multiple usable and charming spaces. The decor? A collected look. I’m essentially a custodian of stuff! When I bought this capacious home, I was finally able to use many of the furnishings I had been collecting from thrift shops and discount stores and had in storage for a decade. Living here is even better than I imagined it could be. The whole idea of just breathing new life into this house was a dream come true. It has exceeded everything I could hope for or dream of for my home. For me, everything is perfect; tricky to maintain, but perfect! After 14 years here, it’s been beyond my expectations. I wanted an elegant home, with a bit of sophistication, and a place that’s relaxed, family-friendly and inviting at the same time. I love coming home to this house. For me, it’s warm, it’s comfortable, and it’s so inviting that once I’m here, I never want to leave. And everyone who visits (even the cable guy), always remarks about how fascinated they are when they’re here. That’s exactly what I was hoping to achieve. The house is 4000 square feet on all floors, so that’s three floors above grade and one floor below grade. With 17 rooms and 13 closets, it’s like living in a tiny village. This makes for a very spacious living.
