Sunny, spacious unfurnished studio apartment with classic hardwood floors, plentiful natural light from large, east-facing picture windows of main room and kitchen. Plentiful storage space (multiple large closets, including a walk-in with built-in shelving and dresser) in our family owned and managed 8 unit building on the corner of Hearst and Spruce. We are conveniently located in the prime Northside "gourmet ghetto" location directly across Hearst Avenue from UC Berkeley's Barker Hall, and steps away from a Bear Transit stop, BART, and AC Transit.
We are at the final stage, namely freshly painting the entire unit, following various upgrades, including new kitchen and bathroom hardware, a new refrigerator, range hood, toilet, and a "fandelier" in the main room. New photos will be posted as soon as the paint dries and the unit is professionally cleaned; the photos will augment the 3D and floor plan currently depicted on the listing.
The unit has a large, separate kitchen which features two entries (one to the main room and one from the unit's hall/entry area), appliances, a pantry/broom closet, and a large, working slider window. The kitchen includes a refrigerator, gas range/oven and hood, granite countertops, stainless steel sink, ample counter-to-ceiling solid wood cabinets/under-cabinet storage, and durable, easy to clean/maintain SPC flooring.
There is extensive in-unit storage, which includes two hall closets (a linen closet with shelves, the other for hanging clothes), as well as the aforementioned roomy walk-in closet off the main room with shelving, closet rod and hooks for hanging clothes, and a built-in dresser with mirror.
All our units have an intercom, doorbell and front door buzzer to allow screening of visitors to the building's enclosed interior common hallway and stairway areas, with skylights. A private garage may be available to rent for our building's tenants at an additional de minimis monthly fee under a separate month-to-month garage rental agreement.
We are walking distance to all points on the UC Berkeley campus, transportation, popular Gourmet Ghetto restaurants, cafes, markets and merchants, as well as local hiking trails and other community spaces. We are proud of our responsible maintenance and respect for the Berkeley community as third generation Cal Bear family ownership/management of this building. Many of our tenants are referrals from former long-term tenants, some stay after graduation, and all are collegial and respectful of each other's safety, privacy and property rights.
The unit will be shown by appointment only to one applicant at a time. Please email Mona Soo Hoo with any questions; or, to request a nonbinding application to rent. You will receive a reply within a day or less.
A twelve month lease is required to start, with potential option to renew. First full month's rent and security/cleaning deposit (1 month's rent) required to move in. Sorry, although we are dog lovers, our building's policy is that no pets are allowed. Our building is smoke free, as required by the City of Berkeley. Our studios are suitable for one person only.
